Lyman Whitaker Biography

Lyman Whitaker has over 40 years experience in sculpture. He graduated with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Utah studying under the great teachers Arvard Fairbanks and Angelo Carvaglia. His knowledge of sculpting spans both the classical sculpture techniques as well as contemporary design.

The last half of his professional career has been primarily focused on creating Wind Sculptures. Whitaker created the first Wind Sculpture in a moment of curious play in the early 1980’s. At the time, he had no idea just how well received his Wind Sculptures would become.

Whitaker ensures the highest level of craftsmanship using the best materials. The result is an innovative and artistic sculpture with a high degree of mechanical integrity.

Whitaker resides with his wife Stacy, and their two children in Southwest Utah. He loves the desert's solitude and the intensity of the climate. He is currently a member of Z-Arts!, the Zion Canyon Arts and Humanities Council, as well as Americans for the Arts Public Art Network. He has been involved with architectural controls in many communities, including Artspace Project in Salt Lake City.

An array of public commissions has resulted in a national reputation for Whitaker. In turn, he has an opportunity to broadcast to a larger audience his love for the simple joy of elegant movement.
