Ernesto Montenegro

Second generation artist Ernesto Montenegro used meaningful apprenticeships to achieve his artistry. He chose an alternate route to formal schooling, studying under influential artists instead. Montenegro's work began with drawing in two-dimensional form, then moving to sculpting in forms that seem even beyond the three-dimensional. His work is characterized as a form of bas relief, vigorous and imaginative using negative and positive space.
